The 110x250x190 blue box enclosure was selected for the RC2014 RomWBW enclosure for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is just about the perfect size, with room enough for a fully laden RC2014 Zed Pro. It is also easy to access, either from the front or rear and also the top is easily removed. It is also excellent value for money which is always nice! And, lastly, whilst it seems to originate from China, it is ubiquitous in many countries, often holding local stock.
Sourcing one of these boxes yourself is fairly easy. Some combination of Blue, Enclosure, Project Box, Junction Box, ABS, Plastic, Metal, Panel typed in to your favourite search engine or market place should give a few results. Brand names vary wildly, although I am pretty sure they are all made by just one manufacturer. Some listings claim it is made of cast iron and also it is waterproof. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet!
There are a lot of sizes to choose from, so ensure you get the right size. 110x250x190 seems to be the nominal size it is sold as, although 105x245x191 is sometimes mentioned and this is more accurate. In some countries the nominal dimensions are 9.8″x7.5″x4.3″
There next size up is nominally 115x310x285 which is quite spacious inside. I might make a front panel kit for that one too as it will probably be perfect for housing a hard drive, audio amplifier or power supply along with the RC2014.
If these links go dead, or you have better links (particularly for other countries) please get in touch and I will try to keep these updated.
Blue Box Enclosures to avoid
It appears that not all blue boxes are created equally. One user was very disappointed with the fit of their panel and base plate, and ending up trying a blue box from another supplier. The only obvious difference from the listing was that there were two rows of vent slots on each side rather than one row that I have linked to above.
I would definitely warn people to look out for this case with the dual vents to avoid it. I got the replacement case and it was night and day better. No issues with spacing for the backplane acrylic sheet. Front panel is different too. Fits SO much better and assembled in 5mins vs an hour plus of fighting with the old one.
Injection molding and fit on everything was night and day better and the same price. I ordered the dual vent before I saw your recommend ones from Amazon.
